Frequently Asked Questions

WHERE ARE PRACTICES AND GAMES HELD?
All practices and games play at Pan Pacific Park.

DO I HAVE TO LIVE IN A CERTAIN AREA TO PLAY IN THIS LEAGUE?
No, all boundaries have been lifted.

IS WILSHIRE WARRIORS BASEBALL CO-ED?

Absolutely. Girls and boys have fun playing baseball at Wilshire Warriors from ages 4 to 14.

WHAT ABOUT PLAYERS WITH DISABILITIES?

We want everyone to play baseball. There are opportunities with Wilshire Warriors, and with PONY League program:  https://www.pony.org/Default.aspx?tabid=1025893. Please contact wilshirewarriorsregistrar@gmail.com for more information.

WHEN IS THE SEASON?
Our Spring Rec program runs mid-March through early-June. We also offer a year-round Club program for our most advanced players which runs September through the end of All-Stars and/or Cooperstown.

WHAT DAYS ARE PRACTICES AND GAMES?
Specific practice days/times are announced once teams are drafted in early March, and game schedules will be announced soon after. Generally, teams in divisions 7U through Pony will practice one weekday and play one weekend game. Some older teams may have a second batting practice at the manager's discretion. Broncos usually play games Friday nights or Saturday morning. Players aged 7-10 play games on Saturdays. In the 4U, 5U and 6U divisions, each team will have a back-to-back practice-then-game on Sundays.

CAN I CHOOSE WHICH DAY MY PLAYER HAS PRACTICE?
No, but you can block out one conflict day during the registration process, which we do our best to honor.

ARE SIBLINGS GUARANTEED TO BE ON THE SAME TEAM?
Yes, if they are both in the same age division.

CAN MY PLAYER REQUEST TO BE ON A TEAM WITH FRIENDS?

For the 7U division and older, players are required to attend evaluations before the season starts, and are selected to teams during a Draft that includes all the Head Coaches (Managers) of all the teams in that division. Our intention is to create parity among the teams (for a better and balanced playing environment), and to foster the community-building that occurs when kids and their families get to play with (and cheer with) a wide variety of others kids and families during their seasons playing Wilshire Warriors baseball. For 4U, 5U, and 6U there are no evaluations, and we attempt to group players according to reasonable requests. All requests must be submitted by mid-February.

CAN I COACH OR HELP OUT IN OTHER WAYS?

Definitely. We're an all-volunteer organization, so we're always searching for help. Our coaches are moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and family friends. When your child is registered, please indicate your interest and availability in the appropriate section.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DOES MY PLAYER NEED?
A baseball glove, baseball cleats (for older division), a protective cup, and a batting helmet are needed (ages 8 and under are required to have a batting helmet with a facemask). Metal cleats are not allowed. If you need assistance in obtaining any of the required items, please let us know.

CAN MY PLAYER CHOOSE TO PLAY UP OR PLAY DOWN OUTSIDE THE ASSIGNED AGE DIVISION?

These types of requests are discouraged and generally not granted. First, sign your player up for the age-appropriate division based on their birthdate (we will require proof of age from new players to our league). If a player has an extreme circumstance to be considered, the requests to play up or play down must be emailed to the specific player's league commissioner prior to evaluation day. Your player must attend the evaluation time set for their birthdate. We must take into consideration the safety of all the children playing.

WHAT IS PONY BASEBALL?
PONY (Protect Our Nations Youth) is a highly respected national youth baseball organization created as an alternative to Little League. The key feature of PONY is that, as players get older, the diamonds are enlarged and advanced rules (leading off, stealing, etc.) are incorporated in the game. Another key feature of PONY is that it runs a national all-star competition each summer leading up to a World Series. Wilshire Warriors all-star teams will be formed at each age level at the end of the Spring Rec league season.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WILSHIRE WARRIORS PONY BASEBALL AND WILSHIRE WARRIORS CLUB BASEBALL?
Wilshire Warriors PONY baseball os a Spring Rec league program open to players of any skill level. Wilshire Warriors Club Baseball is a year-round, invitation-only, intensive baseball program with tryouts taking place the end of August each year. For more information on Wilshire Warriors Club Baseball, email wilshirewarriorsregistrar@gmail.com.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE ON THE WAIT LIST?

We want all kids to play, but have to manage around registration constraints that result from the limited availability of fields and coaches, and to keep each team to a size that provides kids with a positive experience. Therefore, when a division fills up, the online registration system will place subsequent registrants on the Wait List. Players on the Wait List do not pay unless a spot is found for them, but will receive notification of evaluations, and are required to attend. If we find you a spot, the Registrar will alert you via email. If you have additional questions, please email wilshirewarriorsregistrar@gmail.com
